This is why I am never doing a countdown list of favorite Disney films: people would flip their fucking shits if I ranked Hercules as number 2 (and Atlantis as number 3) above Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King... Ohhh, I'm SOOO sorry, I thought I was supposed to tell what are MY  favorite Disney films with the ones I personally enjoy the most on the top, not that I must join your circlejerk and conform to the general opinion. Shitheads.

Like, geez, I'm just showing you which films please me the most, I'm not fucking dictating how you must judge and rank Disney movies.  A guy can't simply talk about a harmless movie he likes without people making up reasons to get mad and antagonize.
I'm just being honest with you and especially with MYSELF.

I am fully aware that Hercules is a flawed film (despite the jab at the Nostalgia Chick, her latest essay on the film is actually solid, she made a lot of valid points) if I was asked which movie is objectively better between, say, Hercules or Aladdin, I'd say Aladdin.
But I don't know what my deal is with Hercules. It just gives me so much warmth and sheer joy, it really does. I went to rewatch it right after seeing Lindsay's essay... And I'm dead serious, I was not bothered a single bit. I cannot believe it. I still had a blast watching the movie like the very first time I saw it in 1997 despite having the flaws in mind, it wasn't ruined.
So if I was supposed to undergo a space travel and I had to pick a Disney film (and Who framed Roger Rabbit was unviable) I wouldn't give two fucks about the critical consensus or the objective quality and I'd pick a film that would NEVER fail to cheer me up and morally support me the most. It's fucking logical.

Think of it in this way: I love Samurai Jack, but honestly if I was in this same situation, I'd ask to have Ed Edd & Eddy, Samurai Jack might be an objectively better and superior cartoon, but the Eds bring me pure entertainment and happiness like nothing else does. It's about what would emotionally support me the most, not about impressing others “Look, I love this thing that is generally well received, my tastes are good, respect me!” Again, are people honest with themselves about loving a film, or deep down they're just afraid to be judged for not agreeing with the general opinion?
Also it's just
Hercules, not Belle's Magical World, give me a break.

For those who have seen Bruce Timm's Superman: The Animated Series, yes, the deep space vehicle is Brainiac's ship, because of the Wonder Woman movie, italian Cartoon Network re-winded the '90s Superman show and I treated myself with it, so it's recent. And the name “USS Cygnus” is a homage to The Black Hole, a movie I own and consider to be underrated (oh, but it doesn't have high ratings and I'm not a famous person with tons of sheep followers therefore my opinion is invalid :P)

Those white words in the comic is "Go The Distance" in italian, the one I and many italian kids grew up with. Personally I think it's way superior than the original version, both the singing and the lyrics: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVne8j… Like Nostalgia Chick said in her essay, the original song kinda makes Hercules sound as if he wants admiration and fame, the italian version I won't translate word for word, but it's simply about him longing for a place where people would accept him and tell him that he's at home.

Well, nothing else to say other than happy 20th birthday, Herc. It's been a real "slice".
